Job Description:
The Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) mission is to support the Gainesville Police Department by proactively developing prevention strategies and programs along with problem solving initiatives. CPU will work with the community stakeholders to provide contacts and referrals and explore options for resolutions.
We are looking for an intern to work with us on a wide variety of projects and listed below are our expectations.
+ Draft basic public relations materials including e-Newsletters, news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, and other materials as directed. The information will be shared and approved by our GPD Public Information Officer (PIO) prior to publication.
+ Attends and participate in Neighborhood Crime Watch/Volunteer meetings, and brainstorming sessions as directed.
+ Assists with the development and drafting noteworthy news and newsletter stories. The intern will provide data output in the form of letters, fax lists, data lists and other reports as requested.
+ Assists with the distribution of organization?s marketing materials. Also ensures completeness and accuracy of information and assists with the management of destination lists, and coordination of fax, and mailing. In addition, conducts appropriate follow up when necessary.
+ Assists with administrative duties including fax processing, sorting, collating, stuffing envelopes, mailings and other administrative functions as assigned.
+ Plan and execute initiatives to reach the target audience through appropriate channels (social media, e-mail, TV etc.)
+ Undertake individual tasks by creating PowerPoints for GPD Command Staff and Community Presentations.
Advertised Salary:
$10 per hour
Minimum Requirements:
Federal Work Study required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Good typing, oratory and writing skills. Business Marketing or Public relations background with the ability actively engage in a professional environment. An intern with experience preferably starting at a Sophomore up to Graduate School status. Interns will preferably have a Graduate School standing. The individual must demonstrate the ability to undertake marketing/public relations writing assignments, and possess an understanding of media relations skills, an ability to interact professionally with the students, staff and the community, and good judgment. A working knowledge of computers, as well as word processing, excel, power point and database management software is necessary. Interns will work between 15-20 hours a week. Prior relevant experience is preferred. Exceptional communication and writing skills

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
